The Family Centre (Deaf Children) arranged 3 events over the half term in February. Our first event was at the BMX track in Lawrence Weston with the fabulous Matt from Access Sport coaching the participants. The rain held off and it was lovely to see confidence increasing as the session progressed. We hope to have another session at Easter.
Wednesday was a trip to Hollywood Bowl, Cribbs Causeway. We had 4 lanes of children bowling with lots of laughs and happy faces.
On the Friday, a small group of us met up at the SS Great Britain and were treated to a tour of the ship with our own personal guide for the duration. It was a fascinating insight into life on board Brunel’s iconic Bristol ship.
As well as a visual feast there were smells to take in, from the smelly toilets, to the Drs surgery. We saw rats and cats in the kitchen, the cabins for the less wealthy and the first class cabins. We decided we would all chose first class if we were to go on a journey on board as the living quarters were much nicer! We learnt that it took 60 days to reach Australia from Britain.
Keep a look out for our events that will take place over the Easter holidays!
