Are you looking for an event to attend with your family or want a space to talk to others about your experiences? In May and June we have a number of sessions running that might interest you.
Music and the Deaf Workshop – 2nd June 11am – 3pm – £5 (including lunch for the family)
This is a great workshops for children and parents. The workshops will cater for all levels of hearing loss. Please book children into their age appropriate workshops. There is flexibility within these age groups to accommodate siblings. Each workshop will be led by an experienced signed song and singing leader. The children will be taught songs to sing and sign and we will also have plenty of percussion instruments available for children to work with.
Lunch will be free and we encourage families to come to this for the opportunity to ask more questions and meet others and attend activities between workshops. Families can also just come along to the individual workshop if they wish. We will be running our own sing and sign choir for all the family to join in and our BSL tutor will be with us offering a taster to our beginners course for anyone who would like to join us.
The day will follow the timetable below.
11am – 12 noon: A session with ages 0-4 and families. Including some Q&A at the end of the session 10/15 minutes.
12 noon – 12.45pm: Lunch / social time.
12.45pm – 1.45pm: A session with (primary) ages 5-11 and families. Including Q&A at the end.

Music and the Deaf aims to enrich the lives of those with all levels of hearing loss through the experience of music. It is the only national charity entirely dedicated to providing access, education and opportunities in music for deaf children, young people and adults. They work with many young people with cochlear implants (and hearing aids) and believe that with increased exposure to music, children find music a very natural thing to take part in.
Rowing – Alternate Sundays until June – free
Our rowing sessions at Pooles Wharf Activity Centre in Bristol are a great opportunity to be part of a team and learn a new skill. This activity is for all children of family members aged 10 and above.
The next sessions are on the 20th May and 10th June.
Parent Space – Saturday (2nd of each month) 12-1pm – free
Parent Space are group sessions for parents to come together and talk about any issues they are facing parenting a deaf child. This is a time for parents to discuss their worries with each other.
Discussions are led by parents and carers with the group being run under the guidance of our trained counsellor Shelley Frost. You can share and learn from each other. A crèche is available but booking is essential.
FCDC Choir – Wednesday Fortnightly 6-7pm – free
Our brilliant sing and sign choir meets fortnightly at Elmfield School. The choir will be performing at Southmead Hospital at the end of June. We need more parents, carers, grandparents and accompanied children to join our group.
