As you are aware from previous posts, we have created a group for our young members aged 11 plus without parent/carers or siblings and it has been well received and a success. It had been requested by some of our young members and so we listened. Many of our older children are in mainstream school and don’t see other deaf children, sometimes they struggle with their deaf identity. This group is a brilliant way to come together with other deaf children and form friendships, all having a common ground. So far, we have had a full day at Mojo Active, been Ten Pin Bowling followed by burgers, and recently visited Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf with a visit to McDonalds after. There is strong competitive streak amongst them!! Lots of cheating but equally lots of laughing and chatting. We split into 2 groups to go around the course and added up our scores at the end to see who won overall. It was lovely to see everyone chatting away whilst tackling the course. After golf, we made the short walk to McDonalds, and let each young person choose their meal on the interactive board. Again, some lovely chatting and requests for future events. All too soon, it was time to head back to where we started, to waiting parents/carers.
