A drizzly morning didn’t dampen our spirits as we met at Severn Vale Equestrian Centre near Chepstow. On arrival we were fitted with riding hats, with care and attention given, especially with those children who have devices. We were taken into the indoors arena were we were greeted with 4 beautiful ponies, Snowflake, Toffee, Red and Woody. The fantastic instructors were brilliant with the children, explaining the pony anatomy and reminding us not to walk right behind a pony in case they kick out. They allowed the children to remove and replace a saddle, girth and numnah ( a padding to go underneath the saddle). Carrots were on the menu to give to the ponies using a flat hand. They groomed the ponies and most had a go at mucking out, declaring it wasn’t so bad! Splitting into 3 groups, we were assigned an instructor and pony. Group 1 had Snowflake, Group 2 Toffee and Group 3 Teddy Bear. Each child took it in turns to walk or trot up and down to get a feel for riding before racing against each other, picking up a toy and weaving in and out of cans to the end post returning to the start. Great fun. We did a couple of games, and it was evident that their confidence was growing with each turn . Lot’s of smiles from everyone and a thoroughly enjoyable morning was had by all. I think we will be returning!! Thank you Severn Vale Equestrian!
