Many events this year have been either cancelled or adapted to be in line with current covid-19 regulations and this applied to one of our most popular events, Avon Valley Railway Santa Special Steam Train. We were hopeful that given the reduced capacity that the train would be able to run but sadly it wasn’t to be. The railway announced that a visit with Santa on the platform would be offered instead. We arrived at the station. and any apprehension soon turned into festive happiness. At the ticket office we were given a Christmas bag containing a mince pie and festive biscuit that would normally be given out onboard the train. a lovely log fire burning in the backgrouph. There was a one-way system in place to keep in line with social distancing where we found a perfect photo opportunity with two festive donkeys.
A quick visit to the gift shop and a play in the ‘snow’ before waiting on the platform for our turn to see Santa. Before entry to Father Christmas’s grotto it ‘snowed’. Great fun for the children, and adults alike. Father Christmas had a chat with the children and gestured towards a Christmas bag containing their gifts
.
It was a lovely festive hour. Thank you to the railway staff and volunteers for putting on a lovely event during these testing times.
