An event every week that begins at 12:30pm on Sunday, repeating indefinitely
Water Sports with Young Bristol at Pooles Wharf Activity Centre (next to the Grain Barge floating restaurant) for all children and young people aged 10 and above.
The Family Centre (Deaf Children) have teamed up with Young Bristol to provide this fantastic opportunity for any deaf or hard of hearing child or young person who would like to be introduced to Gig rowing, Canoeing, Kayaking or Raft building, with the option to learn some new skills over the course of several weeks and experience an afternoon on the on the water at the historic Bristol Harbour.
Young Bristol’s fully qualified instructors will coach the children in all they need to know to manage their boat and develop their skills through fun games and expert tuition. Buoyancy aids and helmets are provided; no experience necessary! The group will either decide to journey up the docks and see the sites or play team games on the water but this offers something for everyone. Children and Young People are encouraged to come and learn new skills, meet new people and work as a team to complete challenges as take the boats up the river. More information about Young Bristol here!
This is a regular group open to any FCDC family members*, including hearing siblings who are aged 10 and above, who will meet each Sunday afternoon.
Dependent on interest there may also be an opportunity on occasional Sunday afternoons for other outdoor activities such Caving, Archery, Climbing and Bush Craft.
All children welcome to join us for a trial session.
This is great opportunity for older children (aged 10 and above) to try something new, learn new skills, meet new friends – leaving all electronic devices at home! It aims to improve self esteem and confidence in all those who take part; skills in working together as a team; individual motivations and create some really positive peer relationships.

It is essential that all of our events and activities are enjoyable, welcoming and inclusive to all and we rely on all of our families who attend to ensure this is the case. For all our family events parents will be expected to be responsible for their children at all times to ensure we have a respectful, safe and inclusive environment. If there are any concerns or anyone does not feel this is the case please approach either staff or trustees who will always be available at all events.
If it is your first time attending an event or you don’t know anyone else attending, please let the organisers know and they will link you with another parent as part of our buddy system.
If you are available to work at an event, please email Emma at email@example.com, stating the event you are interested in.
