Family stories

The Family Centre is a local charity for families living with deafness.  Our members and trustees are friendly and supportive, and always make new families welcome.

At every one of our activities there is an opportunity for parents and carers to come together and exchange stories and experiences.  Families tell us how important it is to be able to share a proud moment, ask a question or discuss an issue with others in a similar situation.

There is a wealth of knowledge and experience amongst our members and they are always willing to share this and support others.

We'd love you to become a member and meet our families in person.

But in the meantime, some of our families have kindly offered to write their stories, sharing their highs and lows, and you can read these by clicking on the links below. Please remember that these stories are the property of the author and you cannot share or reproduce them without permission.

I was raised with a Deaf mother and a hard of hearing father.  Only during my Deaf Studies course at Bristol University did I realise there is a name for this - I am a 'Child of Deaf Adult' (also known as a CODA).  Read more.......
